I was given an opportunity to intern at Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (RCA) in November 2008 during my 3rd year at university. I applied for internship to more than ten(10) law firms during my vacation, RCA is the only firm tat gave me a chance even without any experience or “connections”. the RCA doors remained open for me as I was allowed to intern until I completed my bachelor’s degree.
This was my first ever real job and I was excited to work in a fast paced and highly reputable corporate firm and be remunerated for it. the firm had various specialisations and I was an all rounder who was given assignments in all departments from legal research in both legal and criminal matters, drafting court process, merger and acquisitions, insolvency, immigration, conveyancing, corporate advisory, banking, company registration and filing of court documents at various registries. At RCA, I learnt to pay attention to details , read cases with purpose, within minutes discern whether or not the case was relevant and single out what was relevant whilst being taught mistakes are costly. I was allowed to learn, make errors, learn from them and grow.
Currently I have 13 years post admission experience since October 2012 when I was admitted to the bar on 1st attempt. In terms of educational qualifications, I possess a bachelor’s degree in law, masters degree in law from UNZA, and and MBA in Finance (UNILUS). I am a Chartered Arbitrator and Notary Public. I also hold a Diploma in Legislative Drafting, Academic Criminal Justice and Transactional Organised Diploma Crime Policy. Subsequently in 2015, Mr. Chungu later turned out to be my lecturer in Legislative Drafting.
Currently, I am the Acting Director General of Water Resources Management Authority which position I rose to in 2023 having worked as Authority Secretary and Director Legal since 2020. I have gained more than 13 years experience from both the private and public sectors having worked for RCA, Theotis Mataka & Sampa, Zambia Wildlife Authority, Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Justice and Cabinet Office. I am who I am today because RCA laid a solid foundation for my legal career and took a chance on a rookie with no experience. RCA instilled in me a fighting spirit, a can do it attitude and an ambitious drive. I am optimistic that I will continue to grow in my career, contribute to the growth of the Law Association and continue to leverage from the RCA family network.

My journey at Messrs. Ranchhod | Chungu Advocates from 2019 to 2023 was more than just a career milestone. It was there that I truly grew as a Lawyer. Thundering in Court under the watchful eyes of the Managing Partners taught me the value of precision and grace under pressure.
Mrs. Ranchhod and Mr. Chungu had a rare gift. They celebrated me publicly when I excelled and corrected me quietly when I needed growth.
Outside the Courtroom, we built a culture of camaraderie. My colleagues became my friends. We found a good balance between high performance and humour. My workmates never missed a chance to tease me about my legendary inability to engage in any form of physical exercise. In late 2023, I took a sabbatical from active law practice to expand my horizons and pursue a Master’s in Environmental and Natural Resources Law, a path deeply informed by the values and vision I sharpened at the Firm. Congratulations on 20 remarkable years. I am so proud to have been part of this journey and grateful for how profoundly it shaped mine. Happy anniversary, RCA! #RCA20Years #LegalExcellence #Mentership #RCAAlumni #RCAZambialegalprofession #Careerstories #Leadershipjourney

My time at Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (2019-2020) as a leaner legal practitioner was instrumental in shaping my legal career. I was entrusted with a range of responsibilities -from legal research, drafting court process, and reviewing agreements to conveyancing transactions and attending interlocutory applications. I also had the opportunity to mentor junior lawyer which set the foundation for my career path early on.
The exposure I received at RCA remains pivotal to my practice today. Key legal principles I rely on—such as the intricacies of conveyancing, arbitration, probate and administration of estates, the need to be detail-oriented, and the rigour of litigation—were all first encountered and practically applied at RCA. In hindsight, I owe my successful attempt at the bar exams and the push in my legal career, in large part, to the firm’s high standards and commitment to legal excellence.
Currently, I serve as a Senior Associate at Abigail & Chama Advocates, a ranked firm, and have been recognised by The Legal 500 as a leading associate. As RCA marks 20 years of excellence, I am proud to count myself among its alumni and grateful for the indelible mark it has left on my career.

It ought to be in my yesteryear, but Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (RCA) remains etched on my heart! This is where it all started! Young and unassuming, but determined to grow into Corporate Counsel, I was drawn to RCA after learning that it was one of the lush Corporate and Commercial law firms in Zambia. This was 2007 and though the firm was still taking nascent steps, one couldn’t miss the levels of excellence in the work and outlook.
Intergrity was not just preached but lived; even if it meant parting away with a handsome deposit, as in the case of a distraught woman painfully advised that she did not qualify as a widow to her deceased partner, despite a 12 year co-habitation that produced 3 children. Or a distressed woman who was to sue the Bank as mortgagee over the matrimonial home (titled in the husband’s name), for failure to obtain her consent before availing the loan. it was the place to be-legally edu-nurturing!
After sufficient preparedness and encouragement from the partners for close to 3 years, I moved on to set up the Legal Department as Manager-Legal and Compliance at the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), where I presided over around 500 cases. “Don’t totally discard the robe as is common with In-house Counsel. You are a better expert if you can test your Legal Opinion in the Court and it holds.” Mr. Chungu had advised. Mrs Dimple Ranchhod had chipped in by encouraging me to pick a specialization and stick with it, “A rolling stone gathers no moss, Maureen. You must be known for something”, she said.
And so for four years, I personally handled at least 100 cases at any given time . Further, moving on to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) as Director Legal and Corporate Affairs, I was now responsible for Board Secretarial and Legal Counsel work. Eleven years of legal research, advisory, and in house handling of all cases with substantive personal participation in trial from the Tribunal to the Supreme Court has now evolved me into a well rounded Competition and Consumer Protection Law expert.
I am confidently consulting in this space, with RCA still cheering me on! RCA has been, and remains family to me; albeit with a professional face, reassuringly available with support even in moments of professional down-turn. You deserve the biggest of accolades!

My first job as a Legal Assistant was at Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates. The only skill I possessed at the time was how to check My email Both Mr. Chungu and Mrs. Ranchhod invested so much time in moulding me to be the lawyer i am today and supported me throughout my university. Mr Chungu, an exceptional litigation lawyer with civil and criminal procedure on his fingertips…. Mrs. Dimple Ranchhod, a transactional genius who taught me to read each word, each sentence, each case and every single resource within my reach prior to advising a client on their options.
The funny thing about being a member of the RCA family is that mentorship doesn’t end. I am incredibly grateful for the time they still take to ,mentor me, and I truly value the insights shared up to today. I remember seating at home and my husband matching in telling me “oh I met Paulman and he said you need to do your masters…” I said OK… where? and he said Salford in Manchester. So I got up and applied.. Over the years I still call him for advice and when I was Ready to begin my arbitration journey, he took time explaining all the pathways and advantages of arbitration. So of course, I began my arbitration journey with him as my mentor.
When it comes to to client management I still remember the incident when I complained about a client calling me at 19hrs hours (I almost sent Mr. Chungu into a coma) Lets just say from that day I learnt that COB is not 17hrs, its when my eyes shut, and this helped me thrive in the Banking sector and now in private practice.
Today i just want to say congratulations to Mr. Paulman Chungu and Mrs. Dimple Ranchhod on 20 years of this amazing firm. Your guidance has been instrumental in my professional development, and am specially grateful for your help with my university financial support. i have learned so much from you and I am excited to continue growing in my career. Thank you for always picking my calls.

In 2010, I joined Ranchhod | Chungu Advocates after a rewarding period in human rights law at the Legal Resources Foundation Chambers.
From the outset, I was welcomed by two remarkable Partners—Mr. Paulman Chungu and Mrs. Dimple Ranchhold—whose mentorship went far beyond legal instruction. They nurtured a mindset rooted in excellence, resilience, and service, helping me transition into corporate legal practice with confidence and purpose. The Firm was further complimented with my fellow Associates (A team of Lawyers dedicated to excellent service) and wonderful support staff!
During my time at RCA, I had the opportunity to work on a wide range of complex legal matters, including debt recovery, mergers and acquisitions, civil and criminal litigation, immigration, and employment law. The learning was intense, the expectations high, and the professional growth unmatched.
What truly distinguished RCA, however, was its culture. It was more than a firm—it was a community. We collaborated closely, celebrated court victories as a team, and shared countless meaningful moments, from lunches generously sponsored by Mr. Chungu to the cherished tradition of Diwali sweets from Mrs. Ranchhold each October. These acts of care created a workplace that was not only productive but deeply human.
My time at RCA laid for me a professional and ethical foundation that has continued to guide me through every chapter that followed—from my role as Legal Officer at Stanbic Bank, to my role as CEO of the National Housing Authority, and now, in my current work with the Chandler Institute of Justice. RCA instilled in me the values of precision, integrity, and leadership—principles that continue to shape the way I serve.
To Paulman, Dimple, and the entire RCA team—thank you. Your investment in young professionals, your pursuit of excellence, and your sense of community continue to inspire. Congratulations on 20 phenomenal years. Here’s to continued impact and enduring legacy.

That’s where I learnt my Legal strips- a firm known for its excellence, discipline and high-stakes work. Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates didn’t just teach me the law, it taught me how to think like a lawyer. From corporate advisory to litigation, it was an intense but deeply formative chapter in my career.
One of the most unforgettable milestones? Arguing in the Chita Lodge v Kaizer Zulu matter, a widely publicised case that sharpened my ability to stay composed under pressure, manage public interest and advocate persuasively in the spotlight.
Today, I serve as Manager-Legal and Regulatory at MTN Mobile Money Limited, where I lead regulatory engagement, shape policy around digital financial services, and have recently driven initiatives to streamline Know Your Client (KYC) compliance in support of broader financial inclusive goals.
The Courtroom may look different now, but the mindset, discipline and purpose remain the same. Grateful for where it started. Driven by where it’s headed!

I began my professional journey with Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (RCA) in 2008, stepping into the role of Personal Assistant equipped with a Diploma in law from NIPA and Diploma in English Legal System from ICM-UK. During my interview Mr. Paulman Chungu acknowledged my qualifications did not precisely align with the positions’ expectations, yet he offered me the opportunity, a gesture for which I remain grateful.
My tenure at the firm proved fundamental, shaping not just my legal acumen but my character as a practitioner. While at RCA, I honed robust research skills and gained first-hand exposure to the practical side of law. Most notably, I learned the immense value of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a principle the firm practices with diligence and integrity. Through this approach I embraced a the philosophy that resolving disputes amicably outside the courtroom is often the most strategic path preserving both resources and relationships for clients. this lesson continues to inform my work as a legal professional within the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
Beyond my legal career , I am passionate about entrepreneurship, youth mentorship, and etiquette coaching. these pursuits complement my dedication to service, allowing me to contribute meaningfully both within and outside the legal sphere.

Under the leadership of Mr. Paulman Chungu and Mrs. Dimple Ranchhod, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by brilliant legal minds who challenged and inspired me. I learnt how to think critically, advocate with integrity and navigate complex legal issues with clarity and confidence. Perhaps most importantly my time at RCA instilled in me a deep sense of professionalism and commitment to excellence that has guided my progression in the legal and financial sectors where i have landed as Head of Compliance for Citibank Zambia.

On November 11, 2011, the day I was admitted to the Bar. I crossed paths with Mr. Paulman Chungu, a partner at Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (RCA). Freshly admitted and uncertain about my next steps, I had no clear plan for where I would start my legal journey. It was a friend who Introduced me to Mr. Chungu, simply saying, “My friend needs a job!” Without hesitation, he replied, “Call me on Monday.” That brief moment of faith ignited the beginning of my legal career and set me on a path I cherish to this day.
From the very first day, I was thrown into the deep-end with my initial assignment: a high profile criminal. I vividly recall the fear and self-doubt , desperately trying to find ways to avoid appearing in court daily. Yet, with each passing day, bolstered by the encouraging words and invaluable guidance of my principals, my confidence steadily grew. What once felt like an overwhelming challenge soon became a manageable and rewarding experience.
During my time at RCA, I was privileged to gain hands-on exposure to a diverse portfolio of legal matters, spanning criminal and civil litigation, family law, immigration and employment law. Both Mr. Chungu and Mrs. Dimple Ranchhod invested time and effort in mentoring me. imparting critical knowledge and skills. Their support provided a young practitioner with an exceptional platform to learn, grow and excel in the legal profession.
After a my time at RCA, I advanced to serve as a State Advocate before transitioning to a role at the National Assembly. Although it has been 12 years since I left the firm, the invaluable lessons and high standards instilled during my tenure at RCA continue to resonate with me. On occasion, Mr. Chungu would inquire why I remained in the public sector rather than return to the private practice, serving as a reminder of the excellence RCA expected from us, to continually strive for greater achievements and uphold the highest professional standard

My time at Ranchhod|Chungu Advocates (RCA) was an incredibly enriching in my formative years as an Advocate. It was marked by significant professional growth and a deeper understanding of the legal practice. This period proved to be significant in terms of the supportive environment and learning through the diverse challenges and exposure across various facets of the law particularly in litigation, legal research and drafting of court documents, I made my maiden court appearance as an advocate at this law firm.
My daily responsibilities often involved comprehensive legal research, meticulous drafting of a wide array of legal documents from pleadings and contracts to legal opinions and assisting in case preparation. It is interesting that up to date, I use Book Antiqua as my default font type because of RCA.
After my invaluable experience at RCA, I worked as legal officer at Legal Aid Clinic for Women and Children. I then joined the Government and worked as Senior/Principal Registrar of Lands and Deeds at the Ministry of Lands mainly facilitating the issuance of Certificates of title.
I am now the Registrar at Lands Tribunal. I am proudly 15 years at the Zambian bar. As Registrar, I handle the adjudication and resolution of complex land disputes, providing authoritative legal guidance on land tenure, boundary conflicts, compensation matters, tittle registration and handle policy and legislative advisory work among others.
I am grateful to Mr. Paulman Chungu and Mrs. Dimple Ranchhod for the opportunity to commence my foundational legal journey at their law firm.
